LA's inability to score on the road showed up again last night in Denver as the Galaxy fell to the Rapids 1-0. Colorado's Jean Philippe Peguero may have scored the games lone goal, but it's their keeper, Joe Cannon, who deserves credit for keeping the home side in the match. LA created a number of quality chances but the Colorado keeper was playing out of his skin and preserved the lead for his side.

The second leg is on Saturday at the HDC.

In the papers today, Doug Hamilton says he wants Steve Sampson to get the team playing like the Lakers. Let's hope they don't follow off their example off the field.

Hamilton does seem to imply that Colorado or Kansas City fans may be a bit too nice. The overall tone of the four articles below is pretty negitive. It's interesting when you consider that LA finished second in the conference and should seem much more confident playing Colorado tonight.

Don't expect much scoring, Colorado have allowed just goals in 15 home matches this season and LA have only scored 7 times in the 8 matches Sampson has been at the helm.

In today's Pasadena Star-News, there is a preview of tomorrows playoff match in Denver. Lots of comments from Steve Sampson on the changes he is making.

Also, the Daily Breeze reported the Banning-Carson High School football game scheduled for Friday October 29 has been moved up a day in order for the HDC to be ready for Galaxy's home leg of the playoff matchup with Colorado.

Carlos Ruiz and Cobi Jones are injury worries for Steve Sampson ahead of Friday's first playoff match in Denver.
The Galaxy will get to spend a week in Hawaii prior to the 2005 season. According to the Hawaii Advertiser, they and DC United will spend a week training on the islands before playing a friendly at Aloha Stadium on February 26.

Yellow cards picked up on Saturday mean that Ryan Suarez and Tyrone Marshall will miss their next match. For Suarez that means this Saturday's match against Dallas. However, as Marshall will be with the Jamaican National team this weekend he'll miss next weeks match at Kansas City.
This weekends World Cup Qualifiers won't hit the Galaxy as hard as they could have. Cobi Jones and Tyrone Marshall have both been called up and are currently with the National Team squads preparing for their matches. However, Carlos Ruiz is suspended for Saturday's Guatemala match against Costa Rica due to yellow card accumulation so he'll be available to Steve Sampson. Also, Alejandro Moreno was not called into the Venezuela's squad for their home match against Brazil.
Galaxy fans will only need to endure Nike replica jerseys for one more season. According to the Washington Post, Adidas will become the supplier of choice for the next 10 seasons. Nike has one more season on their deal to supply jerseys for LA Galaxy. MLS will also start using Adidas game balls next season.

I'm willing to bet that six points from six games isn't the 'entertaining soccer' Doug Hamilton promised Galaxy fans when he replaced Sigi Schmid with Steve Sampson. While Sampson's five-man midfield is controlling the middle of the park, LA is just as anemic up front as they were with Schmid was at the helm.

Last night, leading goal scorer Carlos Ruiz looked his now usual unsettled self and did not create much danger around the Kansas City box. LA was awarded a penalty early in the match when Jovan Kirovski was brought down in the box. However, when Ruiz stepped up to take the spot kick it looked a half-hearted effort and KC keeper Bo Oshoniyi was able to push it past the post.

The deadlock was not broken until just past the hour mark when Tyrone Marshall got his head on a corner from Kirovski to take a well-deserved lead. However, LA then seemed to take their foot off the gas pedal and let Kansas City back into the match. Two minutes from time, the Galaxy's back line was in disarray when Sasha Victorine found himself the only defender in the box with two Kansas City attackers. His effort to clear the ball unfortunately when past keeper Kevin Hartman leveling the score. The match finished 1-1.

Fortunately, other results went LA's way as the Galaxy manage to back their way into the playoffs again.

PZ's MotM -- Tough one this week but because he was so dangerous going forward, I'm giving it to Paul Broome.

Also, the Peoria Star Journal had a nice piece today on former reserve Gavin Glinton. Glinton was traded to Dallas last season in the deal which brought Paul Broome and Ryan Suarez to LA. He was injured prior to the start of this season but is working out with his college team in preporation for new slots made available by MLS Expansion.

According to comments in today's Daily Breeze, Steve Sampson is looking for the boys to take chances and attack Kansas City tonight.

"We're going to be gunning for goals from the get-go," said midfielder Peter Vagenas. "We want first place -- we've got to knock off (the) first place (team). We obviously need to get three at home to set the table for the final match. We're in the right situation; we're playing the team we're trying to catch."

"We've got to get a victory out of this game," said Sampson, adding he intends to persist with his recently introduced 4-5-1 formation. "Kansas City has already qualified for the playoffs. They are very good at playing with a block of eight players on defense. ... That means we're obligated to take the game to them."

The only changes from last weeks line-up in San Jose, will be that Chris Albright is now available and may return to his right back position. Andy Herzog is again expected to start the match on the bench.

Midfielder Cobi Jones is the lone Galaxy player named to Bruce Arena's USA squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against El Salvador on October 9 in San Salvador and Panama four days later at RFK in Washington DC. Jones will miss the Galaxy's home match against Dallas on October 9 because of this.
This week's A Pan-Galactic View seems kind of light. Llew Llewellyn does preview tomorrow's game against Kansas City and has comments from Steve Sampson. But beyond that he really only has a breakdown of the playoff situation and a brief mention of the police activity in the Galaxy fans section in San Jose.
