The Daily Breeze talked to Steve Sampson about the pressure he is under to produce this season and his goals in charge at the HDC.
"My No. 1 goal short-term is to bring championships to the Galaxy," Sampson said. "My long-term goal is, before I leave this earth, to have a shot at being national coach again. I also understand that might never happen, and I'm at peace with that.

"But it doesn't mean I'll stop trying."
Carlos Ruiz is the focus of a more general preview of tomorrow's playoff game in Kansas City in the Pasadena Star-News. Will Ruiz be back next season?

"I have a very good life here in Los Angeles,' said Ruiz. "It's very tranquil. After my contract ends, I'll decide whether to stay or go.'

Ruiz has yearned to play in Europe. He wanted to go after the 2002 season, but the offers weren't tempting enough.

But if the right team situation calls, don't expect him to hang around.

"I'm 25 years old and I don't disillusion myself,' said Ruiz. "I know in Europe they play the best football. However, if I go to Europe, it will have to offer me the same tranquility that I have in Los Angeles.'
